Spams now up to 4,401 — only 90 in the past four days. So I’m down from a peak of 278 per day to about 22 a day. It goes to show, that if you are unfortunate enough to give you email address to the wrong site, you could end up with thousands of spams, unless you painstakingly respond to every one – requesting to be unsubscribed. And that is a very time consuming exercise (remember you have to unsubscribe from every mail as each one represents a unique advert — you’re subscribing from that specific advert only).

The Wixawin.com site has taken about $44 from me. The first $10 was just to test my ability to unsubscribe without further harassment. That worked. I then spent about $34 getting through the first round of their online quiz. They said that I was through to the Knock-out round and that they would send me the date of the quiz. No notification yet. I’ll wait a couple more days (I guess they need a minimum of 30-40 subscribers to pay for the MacBook Air so that they can give it to the winner and still make money).
In the meantime I have been expecting spam sms’s but haven’t received any yet.
The most frequent spam I get is to enter an SMS subscription. You are guaranteed to hand over money and it’s ridiculous what they offer you. For example, I’m usually offered a free realtone. But before you sign up you need to note that the small print states: “The SECOND realtone is free. To stop this subscription service? Text STOP WREAL42 to 191192, or just text STOP to 191192.”
That sounds reasonable, but just getting your free realtone and unsubscribing will cost you about $12 - $16 (and that’s assuming you won’t be paying $4 per message each way — as Wixawin does except they charge $2.50 each way).
Otherwise, if you go ahead and subscribe, you get: “3 realtones per week. Service costs: $4.00 sign up fee plus $4.00 per msg inc. GST, Maximum 6 messages/week ($24.00 per week). Standard text messaging rates may apply”.
LOTTO INTERNATIONAL PROMOTIONS let me know I’ve won Euro 1 Million. I can’t wait to start spending. I’ve replied to them and asked them to tell me what banking information they need.
I also received: “Today’s laugh of the day: Don’t miss out on your daily dose of laughter. Confirm that you want to continue to receive A Quick Laugh on Monday-Friday. You won’t receive any junk mail, and we don’t share your infomation”. I’m interested to see if they are legitimate.
FROM THE DESK OF MR JUDE OGO. Another generous Nigerian payment…thank you, what banking details do you need?
Rose Maxwell widow to the late Mr. Ted Grant Maxwell wants to leave me $1.2 Million — Nigerian based obviously. I said: “Thank you…please tell me where to pick it up”. As before I’ll probably be required to pay a hundred or so dollars to a security company to “release it”. But I’ll wait and see.
I responded to homebusinessextreme website and will see what they are offering. I got the message via spam and I’m going to be asking them to explain to me just how they are involved in spamming me.
I also signed up on sentero . net for free mp3 downloads. I get my registration and it shows I have a credit of $2.50. But every time I click on a song to buy it, the server sends back an error: “Moving to a new data centre, you may have trouble downloading mp3’s”. I’ll test it over the next few days, but that is a very strange start. I want to test sites that take money for downloading mp3 songs.
